What is Portland Choral Notebook?

Hello, and welcome to Portland Choral Notebook — a new space dedicated to the many voices that make our city sing.

I’ve spent much of my life surrounded by choral music — listening, performing, and working behind the scenes in Portland’s vibrant arts community. Over the years, I’ve seen how much is happening here: World-class ensembles, volunteer choirs that pour their hearts into every note, and students discovering harmony for the first time. Although I don’t sing anymore, choral music has always been and continues to be a defining part of who I am. I want to help promote and support our local choral community. So I decided to start this notebook.

This site is part journal, part resource — a blend of personal reflections, concert notes, interviews, and practical listings for singers and choirs. You’ll find reviews of local performances, spotlights on ensembles and directors, and occasional posts about auditions or upcoming concerts. My hope is that Portland Choral Notebook becomes a bridge between singers, audiences, and anyone who simply loves choral sound.

If you’re part of a choir, I’d love to hear what you’re working on. If you’re a listener, I hope you’ll find something new to attend. And if you’re just curious, welcome — you’re part of the chorus, too.

Thanks for reading and for being part of Portland’s harmony.

~ Stephanie
